Easy Knit-like Stitch and Free Pattern for an Afghan/Blanket

I came across this pattern and tutorial for a very easy crochet stitch that gives a beautiful knit-like style after a few rows or rounds are done.
It is called the Half Double Crochet in the Third Loop

Here is a great video tutorial on how to do this stitch:

This would be a great stitch to use in patterns for:
Boot Cuffs
Fingerless Gloves
Blankets/Afghans
Beverage Cosies
and I am sure so much more...

This is a really nice, easy pattern for a first project:

Spring is upon us

Finally time for the weather to start breaking, the flowers to begin blooming and everyone starts to get spring fever! That also begins the challenge of crocheting for the warmer weather....

Crocheters are good at warming everyone up during the winter with pics of their handmade blankets, hats, scarves and slippers/socks, but when the weather starts to warm up people don't really think about wearing stuff that is made from heavy, thick yarn. So, out of mind go the yarnies. But dont discredit us just yet!
There are so many things that can be crocheted and used during this time of year:
KITCHEN ITEMS (Dish Towels, Curtains, Dish Cloths--I love mine!--, Pot Holders...)
BATHROOM ITEMS (Tissue covers, Toilet Cover Sets, Wash Cloths/Spa Sets. Re-Usable Make-up Remover Pads...)
And so many things that you can use all over the house, inside and out..
Place Settings for your outdoor dining table, Freezer Pop Covers for the kids, Toys and Dolls, Clutch Purse/Wristlet for those evenings out and you don't want to carry a big purse, and so much more.

Just because the cold weather isn't around anymore doesn't mean that that your yarn carrying, 9mm-hook toting friends can't be useful when you have parties, get-togethers, BBQ's and all kinds of gift or decorating needs this summer :)

Pictures below are NOT my work, all artists and their Ravelry pattern links are noted below pictures.
